Amandeep Kaur

My name is Amandeep Kaur, and I am an international student pursuing a Master’s degree in Sociology at the University of Manitoba. I hold a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) in Law and Sociology and a Master of Laws (specializing in Constitutional and Administrative Law) degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh, India.

Upon completion of my education, I began my career with the Child Protection Unit under the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development, Government of Punjab (India). I worked extensively with children in conflict with the law and those in need of care and protection. As a Nodal Officer for awareness programs and other government schemes, I had a chance to collaborate with various government departments and serve on multiple committees, gaining valuable insights into policy implementation and interdepartmental coordination.

Later, with an aim to enhance my skills and get international exposure, I decided to take a work break and began my studies here in Canada. Right now, I am done with my coursework and working on my research focused on juvenile laws in India under the able guidance of Dr. Andrew Woolford. My experience at the University has significantly contributed to my growth. It has sharpened my critical thinking and analytical abilities.

As a person, I am deeply passionate about advocating for equality and human rights, particularly for children, and aspire to make a meaningful difference through my work. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new restaurants, engaging in new activities, and traveling.
